early in senior high school, we longed to be enrolled in a university. now the dream has come true. but how do we college students like our campus life?
certainly, some relish it, finding it colorful and rewarding. besides study, they spend considerable amount of time improving themselves in various aspect. yet others do not think much of their college life, thus do not benefit as much. in their eyes, the university is just a bigger high school. the only difference is that they have more time at their disposal without parents looking over their shoulder.
as to me, college life is ideal if only i have abundant books to read, some bosom friends to keep me company, a couple of conscientious professors to instruct me, and an easy access to the internet.
Health is an eternal topic.so we should pay more attention to itEspecially in the summer.
In summer people need to pay special attention on it. Otherwise they will get ill easily. In such high temperature if people don’t pay attention to their health they may get sunstroke. But if they often eat the food that can decrease internal heat they will have less chance to get sunstroke. In addition in summer people always have hot temper because of the hot temperature. And it is easy to feel tired. So they need to have enough rest to adjust themselves. In a word people need to pay special attention in summer to live a healthy life.
Dear Mum and Dad,
Time flies! I've been here for nearly a year. I'm very pleased to find that our school is really a good one. The students in our school work hard at their lessons. They take an active part in activities that help to improve their qualities and health. They are friendly to each other and always ready to help each other.
The teachers here all enjoy their work and they love their students. They work hard and do what they can do to help their students. And the students respect their teachers. They get on well with each other. The students in our school try their best to kkp the school yard clean and tidy. They never throw waste about nor pick the flowers.
In a word, I am deeply impressed by the harmonious atmosphere in this school. I love my new school.
Yours,
Tom

With the general standard of living improvingand the working week becoming shorter, more andmore people are able to make a holiday trip toplaces of interest. While many like to joinpackage tours fro convenience,I prefer to travel on my own.
I like travelling on may own not only because it costs much less but because it gives a great degree of independence and freedom. Travelling on my own,I’m my own boss;and can decide when to start on my way, where to linger a little longer and which spot can be skipped over to save energy or time for another spot. I can always adjust my plan. On the contrary,in a package tour you’re deprived of as much freedom as in a military base. At the sound of the whistle, you have to jump up from a sound sleep and, with heavy-lidded eyes, hurry to the gathering place where you are collected and counted to board a coach. At the sight of the little flag waving, you must immediately take yourself away from the scenes you are marveling at and follow the guide whose sole interest is to cover all spots according to him strict schedule, regardless of the weather or your health condition.
True, you may encounter inconveniences if you travel individually, for instance, getting accommodations for the night and finding a place for meals. But nothing can be compared with the freedom which is vital to a person who takes a holiday trip mainly to escape from constraints of his routine life.
The seas and oceans receive the brunt of human waste, whether it is by deliberate dumping or by natural run-off from the land.
In fact over 80% of all marine pollution comes from land-based activities and many pollutants are deposited in estuaries and coastal waters.
Here the pollutants enter marine food chains, building up their concentrations until they reach toxic levels.
It often takes human casualties to alert us to pollution and such was the case in Minimata Bay in Japan when many people died as a result of a pollutant building up in food chains.
A factory was discharging waste containing methyl mercury in low concentrations into the sea and as this pollutant passed through food chains it became more concentrated in the tissues of marine organisms until it reached toxic levels.
As a consequence 649 people died from eating fish and shellfish contaminated with mercury and 3500 people suffered from mercury poisoning.
Yao Ming, the most famous basketball player in China, leads an adventurous but magnificent life. Born in September, 1980, he soon show a great talent for basketball which motivates him a lot to play basketball at a very young age. Thus when he eventually fought into the national team, he was of an amazing height ----2.25m, which gives him a great advantage over the others. However, it was his hard work and bitter training that gives him the chance of joining NBA, four years later, which was an epoch-marking event in Chinese history.
Like many sportsmen, Yao is outgoing as well as friendly. It seems that there is always sunshine and happiness in his life. Therefore, his character deeply impresses us, and definitely becomes a heroic figure in Chinese eyes.
Retired in 20xx as a result of illness on feet, he is still optimistic about the future. He put on his suit, made a business, and founded the NBA----Yao School in 20xx. Yao set out on a new life journey, determined to face the future with a big smile.

It is universally acknowledged that Senior Three is undoubtedly a critical phase of life. The school life is extremely busy, so our monitor suggests that we have an outing to relax ourselves this weekend.
It is terrific! After a month s study, I feel we really need a break for one day, and so do some of my friends. Senior Three should not be filled with study only and relaxation is also an important part. Sometimes relaxation is more useful than an hour s hard work. While having an outing, we can relax ourselves and enjoy the beautiful scenery of autumn --- yellow leaves, attractive sunset against the blue sky and so on. Isn t it enjoyable? After the outing, I think all the students will have a better physical and mental state to meet the further challenges we may come across and cope with difficulties for ourselves.

D. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg recently surprised Chinese students when he spoke to them in Chinese. In a speech at Tsinghua University in Beijing, Zuckerberg spoke Chinese for about 30 minutes. With Chinese having the most native speakers in the world and the study of the Chinese language increasing rapidly around the world, Zuckerberg’s talk raises a question: Is Chinese the language of the future? Could it replace English as the world’s international language? Chinese will grow in importance, especially for people who want to work and do business in China. But I don’t think Chinese will replace English any time soon. American movies, music, television, video games have wider audiences, which is one reason for English’s popularity as a foreign language. So far China’s success in this aspect has been very limited. Chinese films, Chinese television shows and Chinese music don’t have a huge following outside of China. In addition, English is seen as a more neutral(中立的) language than Chinese. Unlike Chinese, English is not associated with one county. It is a universal language and is spoken in more than 170 counties. In 2014, China hosted the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting in Beijing, China. But the meeting was not in Chinese. The official language of APEC is English. The most important reason is that Chinese is a more difficult language to learn. It is estimated that it would take a native English speaker 2,000 hours to reach professional fluency in Chinese. That is four times longer than it would take to reach the same level in Dutch, French, or Spanish. While Chinese grammar is much simpler, Chinese has a tone and writing system that is more difficult for adult learners to master. Last but not least, more people learn English than Chinese. A recent survey by Gallup showed that only one in four Americans is multilingual, which means only 25% of Americans can speak a foreign language besides English. For most Americans, learning a foreign language is a choice, not a necessity. China Daily has estimates that 400 million Chinese are studying English. That means China has more English learners that the U.S. has English speakers. 33. Mark Zuckerberg surprised Chinese students by __________. A. singing Chinese songs B. wearing Chinese clothes C. making a speech in Chinese D. speaking highly of Chinese 34.Which of the following contributes to English’s popularity as a foreign language? A. American growing economy. B. American pop culture. C. American freedom of speech. D. American education system. 35. What is the text mainly about? A. The results pop culture development brings about. B. The influence English has on the global economy. C. The suggestions on how to master Chinese in a short time. D. The reasons why English would be more popular than Chinese. Reading comprehension is an important skill to master for academic success.
